Why do at First Sight?
We have all heard that it is bad luck for the bride or groom to see each other on their wedding day before the ceremony. What most people don’t know is where this came from and why.
So here is a little trivia for you!
Many years ago, most marriages were arranged and the bride and groom had often never met, much less seen each other. It was often a worry that if they were to have seen one another, they may realize the other is unattractive and would run from the idea of marriage. Today, this tradition has carried on, even though most marriages are not arranged.
Here is why I recommend we break this one tradition and do the at First Sight:
- Your wedding will flow much easier, thus being more enjoyable and memorable.
- It will give us more time to be creative and artistic with your photos.
- We won’t have to play hide and seek before the ceremony.
- You still get to surprise the groom, but in a private romantic setting and the moment is more memorable and will be captured by me from a distance.
- After you see each other for the first time, we can proceed with the formal pictures before the ceremony rather than after. This allows you to get to your reception quicker and start the party!

- There’s no mad rush to the reception, which often causes us to forget important formal pictures you may have wanted.
- You will be more relaxed during the formal photos and at the ceremony. The key to good pictures is to be relaxed and enjoy the moment. Bottom line, you will love your photos more!
How at First Sight works?
Once the bride and groom are ready, I will take the groom to a private picturesque area for him to wait for his bride. He will have his back turn towards where the bride will enter the area. We may add some neat things like having him blindfolded or holding the bride’s bouquet for her to retrieve from him. When she is ready, he can turn around and look at her. That is when it all happens!![]()
The bride and groom are no longer nervous and are relieved to see each other. I take a few pictures of the moments when the bride is revealed to her groom and then leave to give them privacy. Once the bride and groom are ready, we proceed with the formal pictures of the wedding party and families.
